Kobe Bryant Hates Boston Celtics – Kobe Bryant tried to make it as clear as possible throughout the series that it was just another series and that he did not look at the Boston Celtics as any more, or less of an opponent than any other team throughout the playoffs. He said that his focus was only on winning, and not so much on the team that he was playing. He did not care that he was playing the biggest Laker rival in the Boston Celtics, and did his best to approach the situation just like any other team in the finals. Everyone knew that he was just saying what he felt that he needed to say, since the Celtics beat them two years ago in the finals this victory would feel all that much more sweet. Of course he wanted to win, but he wanted to win even more to prove that they did not have his number in the finals.

He kept the act up throughout the series, right up until his post game conference. It was there that he opened up about his true feelings;
“I was just lying to you guys,” Bryant said. “When you’re in the moment, you have to suppress that … but you guys know what a student I am of the game. I know every series the Lakers have played in, and I know every Celtics series. I know every statistic. It meant the world to me, but I couldn’t focus on that. I had to focus on playing.”
With the truth out, Kobe stated what everyone had already known or guessed; beating the Celtics meant a lot to him. He wanted to win, if not to beat the Celtics, to get his fifth ring and officially start the Jordan/Kobe debate over again, with another ring on Bryant’s hand.
