Janet Jackson Essence Music Festival 2010 : Is She Too Old For These Clothes? – While we just celebrated the first anniversary of the death of Michael Jackson, his talented little sister Janet pursued with her return to the front of the stage. Far, far from the dramas that unfolded in her family and the countless rumors that are reported in the newspapers, Janet has always kept her head high and she is now more focused than ever. She is currently shooting the new Tyler Perry, film called “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is enuf.” Musically, she appeared in late May on American Idol season finale to sing two tracks.

Her television appearance exploded her iTunes sales. This weekend, Janet Jackson wearing a risqué silver corseted basque and knee-high boots participated in Essence Music Festival, held in New Orleans. A Festival where the headliners included Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
Janet Jackson who did not offer a real show since her performance at Madison Square Garden in New York in 2008 pleased the crowd by acting out an S&M scene with a male volunteer from the audience.
The lucky attendee had his hands and arms strapped into a straight jacket as the star pretended to punish him with a whip.Her high-energy two-hour set was brilliant but many are wondering if she is too old for these kind of costume on stage.

She is absoultely not too old for the costume! I was there, sitting about 10 rows from the stage, and she looked GREAT! She put on an awesome show,(remember it was a show/performance, it’s not like she was walking down the street with the outfit on, Seriously!). Doesn’t this go back to the golden rule, “if you don’t have anything nice to say……” I truly enjoyed it!
I agree! Janet looks kick a** in that costume! if you’ve still got it, flaunt it girl! She reminds me of beyonce! If you guys havent seen her in concert buy that 2009 essence cd/dvd. she looks SO GOOD!!

Seriously? I don’t see anything risque about what she was wearing or doing. I’ve seen Cher wear half of what Janet was wearing and be celebrated for it. What’s the difference? What did you expect her to wear? I mumu because she is in her forties? Come on now!
also what’s so risque about her corsete? it’s covering more of her body than your average bathing suit that you see on the cover of many magazines and in movies, tv shows and commercials? please get over trying to put this woman in a bad light whenever she does something good. it’s tiring.

Do you think Madonna is to old or Char and even Cher why if our most famous black longevity historical icons like Janet Jackson or Michael have to get ambushed in the headlines do we respect what they have paved for all other black stars. I think we the people need to look at our history and respect it not trash it.

I have seen Janet in concert 5 times ( 5 different shows). Her performance at Essence was the best.
Janet was amazing…the best performance of the night. What does age have to do with it? Janet looked amazing and the crowd really appreciated her work. The crowd was on it’s feet for over two hours…all of us who attended witnessed an awesome and entertaining performance by Ms. jackson. Looking forward to more Janet!

Not too old at all! Janet killed it on that stage. She was amazing. Age had nothing to do with how good she was. She could have easily been 21.
She looks wonderful!!! People should really stop trying to micro analyze every thing. I have seen people much older than her perform with sexy outfits like Tina Turner and Cher. They look great also so please haters shut up and get in the gym!!!

I was literally depressed because I didn’t see Janet this weekend. I have a strong love for her and her family…Janet dresses with taste and she is aging gracefully. QUIT HATE’N and she is always sexy-cla**y and never trashy!
Janet Jackson shows that it is possible for woman in their 40′s can be sexually expressive without looking like trash. Janets music speaks volumes and her appearance is cla**y sexy and current.
If she’s too old for the outfit then one might want to ban Cher, Madonna, Liza and other female performers from wearing leotards, or cat suits in concert. Who the hell wrote this column. Janet was absolutely HOT with every outfit! How stupid to think she’s too old! She looked terrific! She looked like she did not want to leave the stage and she gave us our money’s worth! She’s still keeping up with her 20something yr. old dancers! Stop hating on her age. She is aging gracefully! Everytime I thought she was singing her last song,s he came back with more! Janet looked absolutely fabulous in everything she wore that evening. I was at the show and she rendered an oscar performance. And she looked stunning. Yes…I agree…great choice Essence.
Janet’s clothes were definitely not out of character for her. Everyone should know this about her by now… Personally, I thought her performance (costumes and all) were amazing!! She’s still got it after all these years and I can’t wait to get the dvd when it comes out to see her performance again!

what exactly is wrong with this outfit? she looks great. This picture doesnt do her justice. i was there, and she looks ageless in person!!!! besides, she doesn’t have any kids. she can be as young as she wants to be, for however long she wants to. And i’ve seen Cher and Madonna in more risque’ clothes than this.
