With a new album due out this Summer and several music videos about to debut, rapper Ja Rule is ready to do his two years in the slammer for a weapons charge.

The entertainer showed up to the courthouse in New York to be processed after pleading guilty in 2010 to an attempted criminal possession of a weapon charge that came from 2007 when a loaded gun was found by cops in his sports car.

His new name is inmate #07608730Q.

TMZ actually has exclusive video of a brief video of the rapper as he exited a studio where he had been working on his album and music videos and he stated how he was spending his last few hours as a free man and what he would be doing while doing his time.

Unknown is why he had a loaded gun on him. Far too many musicians and actors get busted with carrying illegal firearms when with their money and lawyers they should easily be able to get a permit to carry a licensed weapon.

Unless he’s been a convicted felon or some other reason that prohibits the legal carrying of a weapon, a man of his means could have acquired a license and training in a matter of days.

Now he’ll be cooling his heels in prison where he intends to spend the time writing a book and other pursuits.
